When you are looking for a restoration project there are three main ways of coming across them . On this page we remind you of a Fourth and rather interesting method.
The main ways are Firstly Advertised for sale in publications.
Secondly Entered to one of the collective auction sales or internet auctions
Or Thirdly advertised at Old Sodbury’s Sortouts.
Here is a Fourth alternative . Some of the most successful finds occur when an eager buyer persuades the owner of "might get round to it" projects to sell and let them get on and make the restoration happen. Around the country there must be thousands of rescued projects that the present owner thought was too good to see going to scrap . In their heart of hearts they accept they will probably not get round to doing the restoration. Yet they are not particularly anxious to sell. There are also the potential projects that you come across. You know you would never get round to doing it but you feel it would be a shame to see it scrapped. These might be described as “could be for sale if the right buyer came along.".
Typically the owner is not particular pressed to sell it so he never quite gets round to advertising its for sale.
He has probably got better things to do than load up some non running machine and cart it miles to a sale in the hope that it might be wanted by somebody at the sale.. Again he might put it on an internet sale but unless you happened to spot it in time you could miss it .
A feature of Sortout stalls has always been the lists of projects still at Sellers homes that could be bought. For you as a buyer you can have a preliminary chat with the advertiser and see whether it is worth following up.
The don't need a fancy description if the a potential restorer is interested he would be willing get in contact with the owner to discover whether it was worth the time to make the trip to examine to project more closely to see if the restoration is worth taking on.
